I’ve never done Alaska before but I have been on many cruises. A few caribbean, panama canal, a few european. I’ve been on Royal Caribbean, Carnival, and Celebrity and I always say Celebrity was my favorite cruise line. They are more upscale and classy, you don’t feel like you are on a cheapy touristy ship, you know what I mean? The dining rooms are gorgeous and food is phenominal. I don’t see any reason you would not love it. Just remember to bring your cash for gratuities (aprox. $10/day for housekeeping and $20/day for waitstaff) And most drinks are not included, water and lemonade are included but it’s extra for all alcohol and soda.

i’ve been on two cruises to alaska, and i must say its one of the prettiest places in the world. You can do a lot of shopping at the little stores they have, they have a lot of jewlerey stores and their prices are somewhat reasonable, your cruise line will probably give you coupons for the places. You should do a lot of sightseeing, once again one of the prettiest places in the world. They also have whale watching, fishing for salmon and halibut, and ziplining there, you can take hikes. there are so many tours you can do in alaska. if you go to juneau, alaska you must stop by mendenhall glacier its beautiful and its a beautiful sight.

We have been on two Alaska cruises, one on the Celebrity Galaxy and one on the Holland America Zaandam. In my opinion Celebrity is a little more "upscale" than the Holland America ship. There were more Europeans on the Celebrity (and older) than on the Holland America. The food was pretty much the same but I think the service at meals was much better on the Celebtrity. I got the feeling on the Holland America ship that dinner was just a mass feeding and rushed to get us in and out. Both ships were spotless. One advantage of the Holland America cruise was that we went to Glacier Bay while Celebrity was not allowed in. Glacier Bay was THE place to see glaciers. Price was just about the same. Since you love the outdoors make sure you get an outside cabin. You can sit on your balcony and watch the whales, eagles, etc without having to go up on deck. We enjoyed having breakfast in our room each morning and watching the scenery go by. Both ships went to the same ports. You need to make sure you take the White Pass railroad excursion in Skagway. The other ports are mildly interesting Ketchikan, Juneau, Sitka. The Alaska cruise is designed for you to watch the scenery and the ocean. Both pretty much deliver on that. Again, Holland Americ is a great cruise company and we were satisfied. Celebrity was our first cruise so we tend to have a bit of bias for Celebrity. Regardless your choice, you will have a great time.
